Sunscreens are MUST!!!

Sunscreens help fight wrinkles. Really. And premature aging, leathery and loose skin, brown spots, scaly patches and even cancer growths. It's estimated that about 90 percent of all non-melanoma skin cancers (basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas) and as many as 65 to 90 percent of melanomas are caused by exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation, with more than 3.5 million new cases of skin cancers diagnosed every year. One in five people will develop a form of skin cancer during their lifetime [source:Skin Cancer Foundation, American Academy of Dermatology].

       No matter your skin type or color, you need protection from the sun's UV rays. You may work in AC room, travel in AC vehicle, you need to use sunscreen. If you work more on systems(laptops, PC...), you need to take care of your skin more. Because its affect is similar to sun exposer, you should choose a sunscreen with high SPF.

        Selecting a sunscreen: Its very important to pick a proper sunscreen which suits to your skin and work. For people with oily skin types, its beter to go for products that are water based and look for labels that say oil free and non comedogenic. If you work more in sun  or on computers its beter to select sunscreen with high SPF.

        Applying a sunscreen with high SPF will not be sufficient. it should be applied properly to get beter results. Below are some tips on applying a sunscreen.

         - You cannot apply it while sitting in full sun

         - You have to apply enough. Your face requires about a teaspoon for the best coverage, while your arms and legs require about a table spoon.

         - You have to buy a sunscreen with high SPF.(min. 15)

         - You have to apply it often enough. One apply a day is not enough, reapply sunscreen after 2-4 hours in sun.

         - Insect repellents reduce the sunscreen's SPF by one third. when using sunscreen and insect repellent together, a higher SPF should be used and reapplied more often.

        Sunscreen should be applied daily. The daily use of a low-SPF sunscreen (15) has been shown to be more effective in preventing skin damage than the intermittent use of a higher SPF sunscreen.

       Apart from sunscreen you can protect your skin by taking some simple precautions. they are:

   - by wearing a hat, you can hide your face and decrease the sun exposure.

   - Umbrellas provide the most protection available in the market. I dont remember clearly but i have read some where that umbrellas are invented to block sun not for rain. 

   - Sunglasses will protect your eyes from harmfull sunrays.
